Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Introduced Keith Shuttleworth, parent of new Mustang scout.  Recognized Rick Korvick, Denise and Herb Strain for the great grub, Greg Spies and Mike Coffee for working with Mustangs and Bill Haner and Scoutmasters for great campout.

 

William Easley            Scoutmaster Update

Best campout he’s been on.  Boys liked the activity freedom. PLC, freedom, trail.  PLC did not like the location of the campfire because of the seating problems.  We will schedule the campout next year based on the PLC feedback.  Need water on the trail at least at the end of the trail.  Greg Williams has been nominated to clean the fish at the upcoming campout.  Theme for next campout will be southern cooking.  Discipline will be controlled more by the SPL at the troop meetings.  May use the Gym for games at some of the upcoming troop meetings and do some casting practice outside to prepare for the fishing trip.  Recognized two scouts, Kevin Morrison and Kyle Spies for helping with the Mustangs at the bike hike campout.

 

Clarence Krantz         Eagle Candidate Update

Clarence was not present but passed a progress note to Terry Ellis; Collins Reynolds and Max McGee turned in their Eagle projects.

 

 

Joe Vogliardo             Eagle Court

Five boys will be make Eagle.  Ceremony will be held at Blue Valley North.  Need volunteers at 11am, Allen Myers and Steve Ornduff volunteered.  Dennis Moore will be the Key Note speaker.

 

Chris D’Adamo          Treasurer Report

Cash balance is down to $2,900.  Anticipates we will end the year with $12,000 positive cash balance.

 

Bill Haner                   Outdoor Activities

April OA Campout Flyer is posted on the website.  The outing will include a two day campout with a fishing derby.  Bill is looking for a conservation project to show our appreciation to Cliff.  Need to nail down Johnny on the spot logistics.  Need a chain saw for the campout.  We have three gators lined up.  Need a volunteer grub master for the tap out campout.  Rusty will not be able to fill in as grub master because of health issues.  Keep him in your prayers.  Troop will  focus on fishing merit badge advancement requirements at the campout if time permits.

 

Bill Haner                   May Canoe Campout

Looking at Bennett Springs on the Nyangua, further south from last years campout.  Venture crew will be promoted if the older boys want a more challenging river.

 

Greg Williams            Bartle 2005 Status

Missouri boater safety license should be completed on line for $10 if an eligible scout wants to participate in a power boating merit badge requirement.  Scouts must be 14 or older to participate in any power boating activities.  Meeting at Prairie Star on April 20th at 7pm for parents.  April 25th meeting for merit badge signup.  Adults signed up for full time need to communicate the exact dates they plan to be at Bartle because duties will be assigned for all days listed.

 

Bryce Wells                Black Beard and Boundary Waters Update

Black Beard - Need to collect the deposits.  Twenty are signed up and we have room for two more.  Boundary Waters - Two crews are reserved and we have one full crew.  We are having issues with the parent to scout ratio.  We will recruit from other troops to fill the second slot.  Troop 10 receives credit for non Troop 10 participants. If we can’t fill the additional numbers we will eliminate one slot. June 26 and July 3 are the scheduled dates.  Bryce recommended a high adventure campout in the fall 2005 to prepare for Philmont.

 

Marc Elkins               Philmont 2006

We are slotted for one crew at Philmont in 2007.  Venture crew 2010 was rechartered with nine scouts and six adults.  Troop 10 is floating $4,000 for the trip.  We are contacting all that registered to collect payment and reduce the float.  Stew and Greg will hold additional campouts on Bryce’s recommendation to prepare for Philmont, Black Beard and Boundary Waters in the Fall and Spring.

Chuck Gibson             Equipment Coordinator Update –

                                    Troop 10 purchased 24 tents for the Mustang Scouts.  Need to purchase 14 Dutch Ovens.  New Truck is working well.  We need to replace the

 

Greg Spies                  Membership Update

                                    70 new Mustangs but only 48 have forms turned in. Focus will be place on getting dues paid on all new Mustangs. 190 total registered Scouts in Troop 10.  Parents meeting will be held on the last Thursday and another will be held at the Troop meeting in the industrial Tech meeting room.

 

Rob Wheeler              OA Honor Programs

Tap out C team met with Greg and Rob.  Need parents to signup ASAP if they are attending.  Ranger Rick is requesting a corporate day out at Nash.  Rob will confirm date.

                                    Leadership session schedules have been emailed and are posted on the web site.

 

New Business

 

Terry Ellis                  September Campout Shooter safety

National raised safety issue.  The group discussed safety and possible alternatives to shooter safety.  Motion to cancel shooter safety voiced.  Vote to Cancel Shooter Safety approved.

 

Jim Wasko                 Mustang Help

Jim Wasko is looking for volunteers at the troop meetings to help with the mustangs.

Denise Holt                New Grub Master Grill

Rick recommends purchasing a grill that will allow 3 cooking stations to more efficiently cook for 100 people.  Eight burner grill, 50” x 36”.  Current grill is a 2 burner.  Greg Spies raised concerns about purchasing such a large appliance.  Motion to keep the grill.  Vote to keep the grill approved.

 

William Easley           New business Scout Master Update

Memorial Day Celebration Monday May 30th at the Liberty Memorial. It starts at 9am.  Good turn for America.

Survivory 2005 is the theme for September 23rd to the 25th Camporee. 

Life to Eagle training May 26th at the LDS Church at 7pm for the Parents.

Roundtable is open to all on the first Thursday every month.  This week was orienteering.
