Introductions & Opening Comments – Blake Williams

·        Great summer of scouting activities

 

Scoutmaster Report:

·        Senior Patrol Leader - Britton Heck:

o       Going to try some different approaches to campouts for older scouts this year.

o       Shooter Safety – split campout

§         Venture Crew Friday night

§         Entire Troop – Saturday PM & night

§         Reviewed with district office – approved

o       Bike campout – tired – looking for a new format

o       College Basketball experience activity

o       1st meeting – patrol elections – leadership requirements discussed and agreed upon

·        Greg Spies – Scoutmaster – “Britton has a great year planned with a lot of great new activities

·        Calendar has been posted to the web site

 

Outdoor Activities

·        Camping – September campout will be at Illig’s farm for shooter safety – 26/27/28 of September

·        Troop Picnic

·        Bicycle – Landau Park, Blue Springs – possible location

·        Discussed other possible venues for activities – nothing decided

·        Camporee – October at Louisburg

·        Quinten Cokington – 19 scouts and 14 adults went to Colorado for high venture crew activities – 2 crews went over the summer

o       Climbing, fishing hiking and camping

o       $400 per person + travel expenses

·        Beginning to think about 2009 – opportunity to go to Philmont

o       July 23rd or July 26th – 2 crews

o       Multiple dates for 3 crews in later July / early August

o       1 crew – June 11 & June 24th

o       Response needed immediately – Email going out to troop to inquire about interest

o       Some discussion on Seabase – Quinten to research

 

Grubmaster Report – McCabe to coordinate Picnic and 1st campout – Navikas to take over thereafter

 

Equipment Coordinator – Gibson

·        Locker Cleanup was very successful – great turnout

·        Tent inventory taken – 16 tents were identified as missing – 6 current year / 10 last year

o       No action taken on charging scouts for tents

o       Question regarding charging scouts for missing units

o       At one time we had 131 tents in the troop

·        At Bartle – tent committee met to make a recommendation for the future to address challenges with tents

o       Tent shall be issued from the truck night of campout

§         Quartermasters would check out tents to a scout and track

§         At the end of campout – dryout tents and put back on truck – weather permitting

§         Will mean later departures from campouts

§         SPL and Color Team Leaders to inspect

§         On wet days – scouts will take home for drying and bring to the next meeting

o       2nd recommendation – have each scout purchase a tent and be responsible for the tent during their tenure w/ the troop

§         Buddy system would still be effect – 2 per tents

o       3rd option – continue w/ current system and bill patrols for lost tents

o       Kevin O’Farrell motioned to adopt recommendation 1; Tracy Thomas 2nd.  Motion was adopted

·        Blake Williams made recommendation to discuss resolution of current missing tents.

o       66 tents are in current inventory

 

Bartle Update – Bob Key

·        Overall very positive – Golf Merit Badge / Fly Fishing well received

·        Thorns & Roses meeting – Ping Pong major issues – to be addressed to reduce conflict

·        Coach Bus home was well received

·        3 staff members home safely – McCabe/Key/Flanagan

 

Crew 2010 – Weaver will be stationed to Mid-East – No update

 

Advancement – Tracy

·        Number of life scouts – 12 to 14 could be done in time for Eagle COH

·        6 Eagle Boards on 8/21 @ RLDS 7 or 8PM

·        Sept 24 is cut-off date for November COH 11/23

 

Treasurer – O’Farrell is passing his duties on to John Martin

·        $23,500 in bank

·        Doing just fine

·        Fundraising - Barb Cusik – 10/6 Greenery packets available – Due 10/27th

Donna Wilson – Membership

·        Invitations going out for Camporee in next few weeks

·        Blake volunteered to assist w/ phone calls

 

Honor Programs

·        OA – Fall induction coming up – end of August

·        No Bartle update

 

Community Service

·        Delano School Project – Chuck Gibson – inner city daycamp for Troop 12

o       Very well received – television play

o       John Ahart recommended considering adopting as an annual project – committee agreed

 

Trailhead District Update

·        OA Fall Fellowship – Sept 19th thru 21st

·        October 18th – Leadership seminar at Kauffman Foundation

 

New Business

·        Discussion ensued regarding the date of the Feast – Motion to move to the weekend of the November 15.

·        Religious Service Award – Mike Flanagan is working on improving troop’s participation
