Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Members Present

Blake Williams called the meeting to order @ 6:00PM.

 

1.       Introductions & Opening Comments - Blake Williams

a.       Welcome and introductions

b.       Looking for the following adult volunteers: Religious Awards Coordinator

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Mike Flanagan is coordinating award for Catholics

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      6 to 7 PM before troop meetings

                                                                                                                                                                              iii.      Randi Haith – will coordinate Jewish faith

                                                                                                                                                                              iv.      Mike’s still working on the various Protestant faiths  – but there are many different sects

c.       Tim Navickas is becoming a color team leader, Dave Corley has agreed to step into Grub Master position for the coming year.

 

2.       Leawood Lions - Gary Flick/Chick Atwell

a.       Drafted request for monetary donations to assist with Eagle Scout project.

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      If a scout volunteers at Lions events – some consideration for assistance

b.       Lions would like T10 assistance with labor for playground equipment installation for Geisler Park if offer accepted by city of Leawood

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Don’t expect city to accept, but Lions want to make an offer

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      Opportunity for community service and activity requirements

 

3.       Calendar and Facilities - Elaine Navickas

a.       Prairie Star has been reserved for Monday nights for school year

b.       Dec 7th is a conflict – PLC planned for that evening – working on alternative location

c.       Still working on 5:30PM approvals

d.       Boys need to stay off stage during regular meetings

e.       COH – we have front of stage reserved – need to stay off back part of stage as this is an operating class room

f.         Commons, 6th grade pod every week

g.       7th grade pods will be reserved once Mustangs start in spring

 

4.       Scoutmaster Update - Greg Spies

a.       Report

5.       Outdoor Activities (Camping/Grubmaster) - Scott Brown/Brian Leeper/Tim Navickas/Tom Baker

a.       Troop Picknic – Sunday August 16th

b.       September 25-27, Venture Crew Recruiting/Shooter Safety, Illig Farm

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Issue w/ date regarding a certified rangemaster

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      May need to reschedule – Scott Brown to research

                                                                                                                                                                              iii.      Rangemaster needed Saturday AM for Venture Crew shooting

                                                                                                                                                                              iv.      If we need to move – plan is to move up one week although there are conflicts

6.       2009 District Camporee

a.       Oct 9-11, former Southview Golf Club – Blake Williams

                                                                                                                                                                                v.      Next Roundtable agenda will be Camporee focused

 

7.       Equipment Coordinator - Chuck Gibson – 

a.       Truck needs rolling doors repaired – est. $1000

b.       General maintenance on truck also to be done in next month

c.       Working on tent inventory process for new year

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Est. 20 tents have not been accounted for

 

8.       Membership - Todd Martz

a.       Recruiting update – Over the summer recruited at Camp Naish w/ 2 packs

b.       Next year – intend to be more organized

c.       Will give those who volunteered service hours

d.       In anticipation of Camporee – will invite feeder packs to join Troop 10

e.       C Team an opportunity for recruiting

 

9.       Advancement - Brent Reynolds

a.       Scout thru Life - Brent Reynolds

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      Brent worked with actual programmer

                                                                                                                                                                              iii.      Next year – hopefully more data streamlined

                                                                                                                                                                              iv.      T10 could be Beta test troop for Bartle

                                                                                                                                                                                v.      Trend is for Bartle to move towards more electronic data

                                                                                                                                                                              vi.      500 Merit Badges earned @ camp

 

b.       Eagle Candidates - Tracy Thomas

1.       9/23 cut off

2.       Cargin, O’farrell confirmed

4.       Estimate – 18 candidates – but it could go higher

 

c.       Scout Leadership - Doug Ball – No report

 

10.   Finance - John Martin

a.       Treasurer's report

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Deterioration in Troop’s finances

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      $13,500 on balance sheet, but $10,000 less than LY

                                                                                                                                                                              iii.      AR has gone up $1,600

                                                                                                                                                                              iv.      LY net income was even

                                                                                                                                                                                v.      TY – negative $7,800

                                                                                                                                                                              vi.      Eagle Court of Honor expenses have been higher

                                                                                                                                                                             vii.      Lower registration fees due to lower new scount enrollment

                                                                                                                                                                           viii.      Investments in “nick nacks” have been higher than usual

                                                                                                                                                                             ix.      New expenditures need to be carefully considered and approved

11.   Honor Programs

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      5 new runners

                                                                                                                                                                              iii.      Senior leaders did a great job at camp

 

12.   Community Service Projects

a.       Urban Outreach, Delano School and Pioneer Trails District – John Ahart

1.       40 T10 boys assisted

4.       Meetings are Saturday afternoons @ Church @ 40th & Clevlend

                                                                                                                                                                                 i.      Working on getting Highway Patrol assistance to lower traffic speed

 

13.   New Business/Open Discussion – All

a.       435 South magazine is doing an article on the Troop

                                                                                                                                                                               ii.      Photo opportunity – coordinate scouts for the shot - 6 scouts in full Class “A” uniforms needed for photo

b.       Picnic – tables & chairs - $115 – Committee approved
