Parent / Son Canoe Campout

May 14, 15 & 16, 2004

 

 

Location:                     NRO Campgrounds, Niangua River; Lebanon, Missouri

 

Activities & Schedule:  We will be camping Friday & Saturday nights.  We will canoe the Niangua River Saturday.  We will return home after a Church Service Sunday.  If you plan to arrive late, leave early or leave during the campout, you MUST contact our Scoutmaster, Bill Haner, before the campout (by Thursday, May 13th) or you may not get credit for the campout.   913-814-9077   scoutmaster@bsatroop10.org

 

          Friday, May 14th

Ø                        Leave for NRO Campgrounds as early as possible Friday, May 14th

Ø                        Set up Camp

 

          Saturday, May 15th

Ø                        Breakfast, Safety Afloat Discussion, Float the Niangua River

Ø                        Sack lunch on the river

Ø                        Scout Skills for new Scouts

Ø                        Supper & Campfire

 

          Saturday, May 16th

Ø                        Breakfast, Church Service

Ø                        Break Camp

 

Equipment Needed:           

(There is no Uniform of the day – A Canoe Trip T-shirt will be handed out to everyone)

          Scouts: (consult your Scout Handbook for a complete list)

Ø                        Cold/Cool weather clothing, extra dry clothing to change into at

night

Ø                        (socks, sweats, t-shirts, stocking hat, gloves, etc.)

Ø                        Sturdy Boots or shoes & extra pair shoes.

Ø                        Sleeping Bag – cold weather, Ground Mat

Ø                        Mess Kit (bowl, plate, insulated cup, knife, fork, spoon)

Ø                        Rain Gear

Ø                        Canteen or water bottle

Ø                        Swim Suit, River appropriate clothing

Ø                        Sun Block, Bug Repellant, Towel

Ø                        Tents & ground cloth if you took one home last month

(The Troop does not provide tents for Adults)

Ø                        SCOUT HANDBOOK (pen), compass

Ø                        Patrol tents & tarps (check to make sure ALL parts are present)

Ø                        Patrol Cook Boxes (cleaned & stocked)

Ø                        Food for all meals

 

Patrols need to work together to make sure that patrol tents and cooking boxes are brought to camp by assigned patrol members.  If you have Patrol Equipment (tents, tarps, stoves, cooking equipment), make sure it makes it to this campout even if you aren’t attending.  Call your patrol leader, if he doesn’t call you by Wednesday, May 12th.   Patrol Quartermasters must speak to the Troop Quartermaster, Greg Spies; quartermaster@bsatroop10.org 913-338-4354; if ANY additional equipment is needed (i.e. cooking grates, bricks, tent poles, tent pegs, tarps, tents) Paper goods & cups will not be provided.

 

*NOTE TO NEW SCOUTS (MUSTANGS)

By the time of this Campout, you will have all been assigned to one of the current Troop 10 Patrols.  You will be working within that patrol to plan your meals, duties, equipment needs and sleeping arrangements.  If you have a tent from the last campout, please make sure it makes it to this campout (even if you are not attending).  We DO NOT provide tents or tarps for adults.  We also DO NOT provide: cups, plates, bowls, knives, forks or spoons.  Troop 10 has a policy about chairs: Only Adults & Eagle Scouts can use lawn chairs (with backs) on campouts.  Other scouts can use tripod type camp stools.  Adults are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

 

Food/Cooking Format: 

·        Friday Supper: – Eat before you arrive. 

·        Saturday Breakfast:

Ø        Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Breakfast

Ø        Adults & SPL Staff will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

·        Saturday Lunch – Everyone bring a Sack Lunch & Drink

·        Saturday Supper:

Ø        Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Supper  (Patrols need to bring charcoal)

Ø        Adults & SPL Staff will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

·        Sunday Breakfast:

Ø        Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Breakfast

Ø        Adults & SPL Staff will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

 

Troop Policy: NO Lighter Fluid, “Match-light”, or accelerant to be used. Charcoal chimneys are provided by the Troop

 

Cost:                       $40.00                   All Adults & SPL Staff

                                    $27.00                   All Troop 10 Scouts (plus patrol food costs)

Coordinating Patrol:      The coordinating patrol will be the Shark Patrol.  The Shark Patrol Scouts and ALL quartermasters are responsible to load the truck on Thursday, May 13th at 6:00pm and unload the troop truck on Sunday morning.

Directions:              US-50 East to Sedalia. US-65 South to Louisburg, left on MO-64 East. 14 miles to Corkery Road.
