Parent / Son Canoe Campout

May 18-20, 2007

Location: Riverfront Camp,= Niangua River; Lebanon, Missouri

Activities & Schedule: We will be camping Friday & Sa= turday nights and will canoe the Niangua River Saturday. We will return home Sunday after a breakfast and a Reverence Service. If you plan to arrive late, leave early or leave during the campout,= you MUST contact our Scoutmaster, Sco= tt Weaver, before the campout or you may not get credit for the campout. Friday, May 18^th

Ø Leave for Riverfront Camp as early as possible Friday, May 18^th (2+ ho= ur drive)

Ø Set up Camp

Saturday, May 19^th

Ø Breakfast, Safety Afloat Discussion, Float the Niangua River (2 put-in poi= nts)

Ø 4 hour Moon Valley float required for all Mustangs and their parents. Other scouts and parents with limited experience=

Ø 7 hour Windyville float R= 11; Must have an adult in the canoe or scout 14 yrs or older (previous experien= ce required)

Ø Sack lunch on the river

Ø Scout Skills for new Scouts

Ø Supper & Campfire (Skit from each patrol)

Sunday, May 20^th

Ø Breakfast, Reverence Service

Ø Break Camp

Equipment Needed:= <= o:p>

(There is no Uniform of the day – A Canoe Trip T-shirt w= ill be handed out to everyone)

Scouts: (please consult your Scout Handbook for a complete list of equipment)<= /o:p>

Ø Weather appropriate clothing, extra dry clothing to change into at night=

Ø Sturdy boots or shoes & extra pair shoes.=

Ø Sleeping Bag, ground mat

Ø Mess Kit (bowl, plate, insulated cup, knife, fork, spoon)<= /p>

Ø Rain gear, sunglasses

Ø Canteen or water bottle

Ø Swimsuit, River appropriate clothing and shoes

Ø Sun block and hat (mandatory), bug repellant, t= owel

Ø Tents & ground cloth if you took one home last month

Ø SCOUT HANDBOOK (pen), compass

Ø Patrol tents & tarps (check to make sure ALL parts are present)

Ø Patrol Cook Boxes (cleaned & stocked)

Ø Food for all meals

Ø Lifejackets (provided by Riverfront) Adult size life jackets may be limited so if you h= ave a comfortable life jacket please bring it.= Everyone must wear a life jacket.

Pat= rols need to work together to make sure that patrol tents and cooking boxes are brought to camp by assigned patrol members. I= f you have Patrol Equipment (tents, tarps, stoves, cooking equipment), make sure = it makes it to this campout even if you aren’t attending. Call your patrol leader, if= he doesn’t call you by Wednesday, May 16^{th. Patrol

*NOTE TO NEW SCOUTS (MUSTANGS)

If = you have a tent from previous campouts, please make sure it makes it to this campout (even if you are not attending). We DO NOT provide tents or tarps for adults.= We al= so DO NOT provide: cups, plates, bowls, knives, forks = or spoons. Troop 10 has a policy about chairs: Only Adults & Eagle Scouts can use chairs= w/ backs on campouts. Other scou= ts can use tripod type camp stools. Adults are encouraged to bring a c= hair.

Food/Cooking Format:

· Friday Supper: – Eat before you arrive.

· Saturday Breakfast:

Ø Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Breakfast

Ø Adults will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

· Saturday Lunch: – Everyone = bring a Sack Lunch & Drink to eat on the river.

· Saturday Supper:

Ø Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Supper (Patrols need to bring charcoal if needed)

Ø Adults will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

· Sunday Breakfast:

Ø Patrols plan and prepare a Hot Breakfast

Ø Adults will cook & eat as the “Old Goat” Patrol.

Troop Policy: NO Lighter Fluid, “Match-light”, or accelerant to be used.

Charcoal chimneys are provided by the Troop=

Coordinating Patrol: The Cobra Patrol Scouts and ALL quartermasters are responsible to load the truck on Thursday, May 17^th at 6:00pm and unload the troop truck on Sunday morning after the trip.

Go South on Hwy 71 about 20 miles to Hwy 7.&n= bsp; Take Hwy 7 about 40 miles South to Clinton and continue on Hwy 13 South thru Clinton. Go 35 miles South on Hwy 13 to Collins. Take Hwy 54 East 26 miles to Hwy 65. Take US-65 South 13 miles to Louisburg. Take Hwy 64 Ea= st about 17 miles to Riverfront Campground.&n= bsp; Watch for the Campground Signs.
