TROOP 10 Scout Skills Campout

Program:  We will be overnighting at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, Osceola, MO.  To receive attendance credit, you must campout, be present during the day’s activities, and cook at least one meal with your patrol.

 

 

Arrival:          We will gather at Prairie Star Middle School between 7:15 and 7:40 with caravan departure for Bartle at 7:45 am.  We will arrive at about 9:15 am.  If you plan to arrive late, leave during the campout, or leave early Sunday, you MUST contact our Scoutmaster, William Easley, before the campout or you may not get credit for the campout.  913-469-9749  scoutmaster@bsatroop10.org

 

 

COOKING AND MEALS:   Eat breakfast on your own before arriving Saturday morning.  For lunch on Saturday, bring a sack lunch and drink (adults as well). Cooking will be by patrols.  Patrols will cook a hot dinner Saturday and a hot breakfast Sunday with Dutch ovens. We recommend that your patrol bring wood and charcoal for fires.    (Troop Policy: NO Lighter Fluid, “Match-light”, or accelerant to be used. Charcoal chimneys are provided by the Troop)

 

Adults will cook and eat as the “Old Goat” patrol for all meals. (bring sack lunch)

 

Equipment Needed:          Be prepared with cold weather clothing, cold weather sleeping bag, ground mat, eating mess kit, and rain gear.  Field (Class A) Uniform not required.  Patrols need to work together to make sure that patrol tents (poles & stakes) & tarps, stoves and cooking boxes (cleaned and properly stocked) are brought to camp by assigned patrol members.  Tents have all been assigned to patrols and are not available from the Troop equipment stores.  Please check your Tents BEFORE the campout to make sure that ALL parts are accounted for.  If you have Patrol Equipment (tents, tarps, stoves, cooking equipment), make sure it makes it to this campout even if you aren’t attending.  Call your patrol leader and Quartermaster if you have any questions.  Patrol Quartermasters must speak to the Troop Quartermaster, Greg Spies; quartermaster@bsatroop10.org 913-338-4354; if ANY additional equipment is needed (i.e. cooking grates, bricks, tent poles, tent pegs, tarps, tents).  Bring your Scout Handbooks. 

 

We DO NOT provide tents or tarps for adults.  We also DO NOT provide: cups, plates, bowls, knives, forks or spoons.  Troop 10 has a policy about chairs: Only Adults & Eagle Scouts can use lawn chairs (with backs) on campouts.  Other scouts can use tripod type camp stools.  Adults are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

 

COST:           Scouts          $5.00 plus patrol food costs

                                     Adults           $15.00

Coordinating Patrol:  The coordinating patrol will be the Indian Patrol.  The Indian Patrol scouts and ALL quartermasters are responsible to load the truck on Thursday, February 24th at 6:00pm and unload the troop truck on Sunday afternoon.

 

Directions:  South from Kansas City via Harrisonville:  Highway 71 south to Harrisonville.  Highway 7 East from Harrisonville, south to Clinton.  Highway 13 South from Clinton to St. Clair County Highway C.  Stay on Highway C approximately 12 miles to a stop sign.  Turn right (south) through the town of Iconium, MO.  At the cemetery turn right (West) onto Highway Z.  The camp entrance is less than a mile from Iconium on County Z.  Signs will point the way.  (Any late arrivals check in at the Cortez Health Lodge for where they sent us to camp)
