Dear
Troop 10 Parents,
Your son was voted on at
last Monday’s Troop meeting for possible election by his peers into
Order of the Arrow. This is an important honor within Scouting and not every
eligible boy is selected each year.
However, I would like to
provide you notice that, if elected, your son will be asked to attend an Order
of the Arrow Induction Weekend at Camp Naish on May 4th and May 5th.
The Induction will be just one week after our Troop 10 Fishing Campout where
elected O/A candidates will be formally Tapped Out during an elaborate ceremony
on Saturday night. YOU AND YOUR SON WILL NOT KNOW IF HE HAS BEEN ELECTED
INTO O/A UNTIL APRIL 28TH.
The purpose of this note
is two fold: One, I want to give you notice to plan for a possible event not
now on your family schedule. Second, I need to provide the council a
reservation list and prepare transportation documents well before your son
knows if he has in fact been selected (not an easy task).
I would like to ask you
to e-mail me with a firm pre-reservation for your son for the Induction Weekend
on or before April 25th. You may
casually ask him if he plans to attend if elected, but please do not imply that
he has been selected at this time. It is critical that we don’t remove the
suspense of the Tap Out or generate unnecessary disappointment for those who
are not chosen.
I NEED YOUR
Pre-Reservation RESPONSE BY APRIL 25TH.
David Contag at: contags@everestkc.net
IF YOUR SON IS ELECTED: I will confirm your
initial reservation in a packet given to your son at the Tap Out Ceremony on
April 28th. The registration fee of $45.00 will be charged to your Troop 10
account. The event details will be in the packet.
IF YOUR SON IS NOT
ELECTED THIS YEAR: I will automatically cancel your initial reservation. You do not
need to take any additional action.
If this process seems
confusing please feel free to call me with any questions. YOUR SON HAS NOT
BEEN ELECTED TO O/A AT THIS TIME and I want to ensure that the boys do not
misjudge this process as confirmation that they will be Tapped Out .
Thank you in advance for
your help.
