Location:             Camp at Big Lake State Park

                   Tour Strategic Air & Space Museum, NE (SASM)

Departure:           Travel should be arranged on your own.  Arrive at Big Lake State Park (directions below) by 7:30p.m on Friday December 3rd. (We will return home after the museum tour on Saturday.)

If you plan to arrive late, leave early or leave during the campout, you MUST contact our Scoutmaster, Bill Haner, before the campout (6:00 pm Thursday deadline) or you may not get credit for the campout. Contact info: 913-814-9077   scoutmaster@bsatroop10.org

 

 

Cost:  ADULTS & SCOUTS:   $10.00 (plus patrol costs) includes camping costs and museum fees.

 

Activities:

Friday:

·               Arrive at Big Lake State Park by 7:30pm;  Setup camp; Sleep

Saturday:

·               Prepare Hot Breakfast, Clean-up, and Break Camp by 9:30am

·               Arrive at SASM by 12:01pm; Eat Sack Lunch; Tour Facility

·               Trek Home

 

Food/Cooking Format: 

·               Friday Supper – On your own before arriving a campsite.

·               Saturday Breakfast – Prepare hot breakfast by patrol. Adults will eat with their son’s patrol (Yikes).

·               Saturday Lunch – Bring a sack lunch.

 

Troop Policy: NO Lighter Fluid, “Match-light”, or accelerant to be used. Charcoal chimneys are provided by the Troop.  Patrols need to bring their own charcoal and/or firewood.  There is no firewood available at the campgrounds.

Equipment Needed: You will need cold weather clothing, extra dry clothing to change into at night (socks, sweats, t-shirts, stocking hats, etc.), cold weather sleeping bag, ground mat, eating mess kit, and rain gear. Patrols need to work together to make sure that patrol tents and cooking boxes (cleaned and properly stocked) are brought to camp by assigned patrol members. .  If you have Patrol Equipment (tents, tarps, stoves, cooking equipment), make sure it makes it to this campout even if you aren’t attending. Call your patrol leader, if he doesn’t call you by Wednesday, December 1st.  Patrol Quartermasters must speak to the Troop Quartermaster, Greg Spies; quartermaster@bsatroop10.org 913-338-4354; if ANY additional equipment is needed (i.e. cooking grates, bricks, tent poles, tent pegs, tarps, tents) Paper goods & cups will not be provided.

Registration: Please sign-up and pay at Troop Meeting.

  

Directions:
Big Lake State Park is approximately 75 miles north of the Kansas City International Airport. Take 135th Street west to Hwy 69 north.  Take Hwy 69 north to I-435 west.  Travel west then North on I-435 until it merges with I-29 north. Travel north on I-29 (about 62 miles) to Exit 79 (U.S. Hwy. 159). Proceed west  (left) on U.S. Hwy. 159 for approximately nine miles to Hwy. 111. Turn right onto Hwy. 111 and travel one mile to the park entrance.  Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuge is 8 miles east on Hwy 159.

 

 

Strategic Air and Space Museum Take I-29 to Omaha.  Take I-80 west. The museum is located between Omaha and Lincoln just off of I-80. Take exit #426 (same exit as Mahoney St. Park and the Simmons Wildlife Safari Park) and go west 1/2 mile. The museum is located on the right (north) side of the road.
