Order of the Arrow

Induction Weekend & Brotherhood Feast

 

WHEN: May 2nd and 3rd, 2008

 

DEPARTURE: We will meet at 4:30 pm at the Wendy’s at 123rd Street and Blue Valley Pkwy. (or Metcalf just south of Target). We will plan to eat supper there since no meals are planned for Friday night & then we’ll head to Camp Naish.  Please contact David Contag if you can transport Scouts to Camp Naish on Friday evening.

 

REGISTRATION: Ordeal and Brotherhood members need to sign up at the next scout meeting on April 21st or e-mail David Contag at contag@dlrgroup.com  before Wednesday, April-23rd.

 

Congratulations to the scouts who were tapped-out last weekend! You will want to complete your Ordeal and become an Order of the Arrow member.

 

Those of you who would like to become Brotherhood need to get a packet of study information from Mr. Contag.

 

ALTERNATE DATE: If you were tapped out last weekend and CAN NOT attend induction on the May 2-3 weekend, there is an alternate date of May 16th-17th also at Camp Naish. I need to know if you plan to attend the May 16-17th date before May 5th.

 

WHERE: Camp Naish, Bonner Springs, Kansas

 

DIRECTIONS: Maps available if needed.

 

MEALS: All meals will be provided. All Arrowmen and Brotherhood candidates will enjoy a tasty omelet bar Saturday morning. Ordeal candidates will eat in the dining hall.

 

COSTS: Ordeal Candidates: $45.00. This fee includes food, program materials, an O/A sash, pocket flap, & wooden coup. Brotherhood Candidates: $40.00 and other Arrowmen: $30.00.

 

ORDEAL CANDIDATES: Your Induction will begin on Friday Evening. You will be given directions and instructions to gather your overnight articles. Following the Pre-Ordeal ceremony, you will be led to a place to spend the night out on the ground. You will spend the next day in self-evaluation and unselfish service. Your Ordeal Ceremony will take place Saturday evening. We will have a brief Troop-10 celebration in your honor on Saturday night and call your parents for pick up at Camp Naish around 9 pm. WE WILL NOT CAMP AT NAISH ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

 

Ordeal Candidates will need the following items for Friday Night:

1. Plastic Ground Cloth-you will be sleeping outside on the ground Friday night.

2. Sleeping Bag-cold weather bag

3. Flashlight

4. Rain Gear and warm clothing

5. Hydration Pack or Canteen & Water (water only!!!)

6. Prescribed Medications (if needed) PLEASE EMAIL MR. CONTAG WITH DETAILS.

7. Backpack recommended to carry these items

8. Insect repellent and sun screen

9. Work Gloves

10. Work Clothes and change of weather appropriate clothes

11. Everyone: Bring your Class “A” Uniform Shirt - Worn at Induction Ceremony

Saturday evening.

 

Brotherhood Candidates and Arrowmen will also need to bring:

1. OA Sash and Arrow Coup!

2. Class “A” Uniform Shirt

3. Tent and Ground Cloth

4. Backed Chair

 

PLEASE NOTE: Some Ordeal candidates around you may not fully respect the traditions of Order of the Arrow. Troop-10 O/A members take these traditions very seriously.  Bring ONLY those items listed. Scouts found with additional items, food or drink (other than water) may be asked to leave. It is highly recommended that I-PODs, radios, and game equipment not make it to camp.  While on “silence” it means just that… Scouts talking while on silence may be asked to leave.  While completing work projects you will be expected to give your best at every task requested.

 

Parents and scouts:

Troop-10 leaders will supervise this weekend outing and arrange transportation. If

This will be the only Induction Weekend where Troop-10 will provide leadership

and transportation. However, if you son has been Tapped Out but can not make

this event, contact Mr. Contag for questions on the alternate date in May.

call the Camp Ranger at Naish.
