Introductions & Opening Comments – Blake Williams called meeting to order @ 6pm

3.   Location of Jan 9, 2011 Committee Meeting TBD – Tentatively – Church of Resurrection

 

Leawood Lions – Chick Atwell

1.   No Report

 

Scoutmaster/PLC Update – Jim Cook

·     Report

·     Jim wanted input on patrols working together as a units

·     Needs 1 time a month when patrols focus on upcoming campout so they can get organized as a unit –

committee agreed – 15 minutes where all other activities will shut down

·     Responsibility for attendance falls on the scouts – Per Julia Day

·     Long discussion on attendance and other advancement requirements for Spirit Card

 

·     Senior patrol leader is absent – no report

 

Outdoor Activities (Camping/Grubmaster) – Scott Brown/Jim Cook/Chris Pfeffer - Campout this weekend went well despite cool weather

1.   Jan 21-22, Fort Riley

2.   Feb 4-6, Snow Creek Campout

3.   Mar 25-27, Bicycle Campout

4.   April 15-17, Fishing Campout/OA Tapout

5.   May 13-15, Canoe Campout

6.   June 4-5, Mustang Campout

7.   June 13-22, Bartle

8.   High Adventure – Quintin Cokingtin

§         Philmont trip already set – but room for scouts & adults

·         7/2 thru 14 – 3 crews

·         7/8 thru 20 – one crew

§         Alternative trip – Great Alaska Council has an adventure program

·         Dates & activities are flexible

·         Air travel is on the participant

·         Once you arrive in Anchorage, all the details are taken care of

1.       Yellowstone has a program similar to Rocky Mountain

2.       Black Hills is another option

3.       South Dakota cattle round-up

4.       Committee didn’t reach a decision on a specific additional adventure trip to offer troop

 

Equipment Coordinator – Chuck Gibson

1.   Report – no new business

 

Membership – Renee Andrews

·         Recruiting update

o        A few applications are trickling in

o        A box will now be at the meetings for applications

o        Not accepting any transfers

o        Trying to hold cub scouts back until re-chartering

o        Accepting out-of-district transfers

·         Cross-over numbers are still up in the air

·             Recharter – Blake Williams

·             Herb Strain is trying to get all re-charter information in for troop & crew members – a significant task

 

Advancement – Julia Day

·         Scout thru Life – Julia Day

·         Cut-off for COH will be the end of evening Monday evening

·         Scouts enjoy getting merit badges at the merit badge forum – need merit badge counselors for these sessions.

·         Eagle Candidates – Tracy Thomas

·         Shropshire ready for eagle board on 16th – Tracy will contact scouters for attendance

 

Scout Leadership – Bob Rohlf

o        Suggestion for a receiving line at Eagle Courts

o        Renee Gurney has volunteered for future Eagle Courts

o        She suggested a T10 memento for speakers and will develop suggestions

 

Finance – John Martin

1.   Treasurer’s report – after greenery sales – cash balance $27,000

2.   Receivables around $15,000

 

Honor Programs

1.       O/A  – Rob Baker

2.       C-Team has been meeting weekly for upcoming crossovers – just need dates

3.       1 in Jan / 1 in Feb / 1 in March scheduled right now

4.       Elections for OA are set for March 7th

5.       Costumes approved at last meeting are in process

6.       OA winter banquet – January 8th @ Arrowhead club

7.       Mic-O-Say – Jim Wasko/Greg Spies

8.       Nov 15th – council sent out a letter stating the rules for counting for Mic-o-Say is now a % of meetings and a % of campouts – official requirement is 50%

 

Adult Training

1.              Report – Scott Bower

1.       doing well on adult training – will be calling committee people who aren’t up to date on Youth Protection

2.       Nominations for deserving adult leaders for district awards

 

New Business/Open Discussion – All

·         Jeff Muchow – Troop is way behind on FOS

·         Religious medal – Jeff Muchow working on setting those up for Christian, Catholic, & Jewish

·         Eagle Core – Jim Shetlar – Needs help from adults who have eagle scouts – has 4 participants but would like to have others step forward

great opportunity for an older scout to get SPL experience in another venue

·         Jim Shetlar – frustration – merit badge teaching for young scouts is a challenge – citizenship in the world - recent example –

Considering raising the age

o        Reduce class size by requiring pre-registration

o        filtering for older scouts

·         Blake Williams

o        if you have a responsibility in the troop – try and find a replacement

o        If you’re teaching a merit badge class and need to reschedule – let Elaine Navickas know

o        Need to make sure all new scouts / adults have name badges – Ted Fuehr has the blanks – Todd Martz agreed to champion

o        Jeff Muchow has agreed to serve as temporary committee chairperson pending Blake Williams’s possible relocation out of the metro area
