High Adventure Summer Opportunity for Younger Scouts
Objective: To provide an age/ability appropriate high adventure camping opportunity for scouts under 14. While older scouts are welcome to participate, the outing will be geared toward the ability and stamina level of scouts 12 and up. Scouts must have attended at least one session at Bartle to qualify for this trip.
What: Canoe/Fishing trip
Where: Boundary Waters – Ely , Minnesota (approximately 700 miles)

Length: 5 days/4 nights (on the water/camping)
When: June 17 -June 24
Travel: Leave late afternoon Sunday, June 17th driving north on I-35 to Clear Lake Iowa (300 miles). Overnight at hotel in Clear Lake and drive to Ely on Monday June 18th. Return to Kansas City on June 24th.
Trip Overview: Arrive in Ely Monday afternoon and stay at North Country Canoe Outfitters lodge the first night. Put in on Tuesday and return Saturday noon. Drive part way back to KC Saturday and finish trip on Sunday.
Each day involves canoeing approximately 4 hours (5-7 miles) and lake fishing. Between 2-4 portages will occur each day through the designated route (ranging in distance of 500 feet to ¼ mile) Our route would include designated campsites. All equipment/food/and camping gear provided by outfitters (excluding personal hygiene/compass/first aide kit/fishing rod/lures).No guides will accompany the crews.
Scouts/dads are required to carry canoe and gear throughout route. Canoe weight – 65 lbs. Each backpack – 35 lbs.
Group sizes: Crews of up to nine people will travel together. Crews will be independent of each other and travel separately from other crews. Each crew must have two adults to meet BSA regulations. Scout slots will be limited based on the number of adults who sign up for the trip.
Cost: Approximately $400 per person (excluding travel costs). Hotel in Clear Lake - $75/double.

Since permits at the park are available on a first-come basis, the trip will not be guaranteed until permits are secured. More detailed information will follow once trip is secured.
