Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Members Present

Terry Ellis called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

 

 

Chris D’Adamo – Treasurer Report – Handout given.

·         Motion – Current dues $100.00 per boy; Moved, seconded, voted, passed

·         Fund raiser chairman needed; Terry has a tentative volunteer

 

Allan Schoof – Truck is OK.

 

Mike Beasley – Klondike

·         Monday evening Station adults needed at different stations

·         Bring newspaper on Monday

·         Assemble sleds

 

Herb Strain – Discussed concerns for Troop Meeting 01/13/03.  Encouraged us to focus on Webelos who will be there and minimize the emphasis on advancement of scouts for that evening.

 

Mike Beasley – Will work on sleds, patrol flags, etc. for Klondike campout at 01/13/03 Troop meeting.

 

Rick Isham – February ski campout – Snow Creek – discussed issues about checking in as a group and which night to have the campout.  It was decided that we will camp Friday night at Lewis and Clark Park.  Scouts will have to bring enough money for their activity and any needed deposits or arrange for an adult with a credit card.  Scouts must camp, cook (breakfast) and ski to receive credit for the campout.

 

Rick Isham – March – Fishing / tap out ceremony – March 1st and 2nd.

 

Terry Ellis – April – Float trip

 

Herb Strain – May – Johnson Shut Ins

 

Greg Spies – Blackbeards Scuba High Adventure still has openings.

 

Terry Ellis – We are 733 out 1051 for Philmont waiting list for 2004.

 

Marc Elkins – Troop 59 opened eight spots for Troop 10 on their reservation beginning 7/11/03.   Suggested we call Philmont at end of 1/03 to see if they have any spots open.

 

Terry Ellis – District Roundtable will offer four spots to Philmont to financially needy scouts who are 17 or 18.

 

Herb Strain – Discussed other opportunities at Philmont such as OA Cavalcade instead of treks.

 

Bryce Wells – Will give Troop Committee choices for 2004 High Adventures at March 2003 meeting.

 

Marc Elkins – National Jamboree in 2004 – Suggested we consider this as a major troop activity.

 

Bryce Wells – Would like ideas for High Adventure trips from scouts and parents.  Frank Weidling will assist in this.

 

Greg Kent – Nothing new on Eagle Boards.  Four Scouts at least for the next Court of Honor.

 

Joe Johnson – Next Eagle Court is April 27, 2003.

 

Herb Strain & Greg Spies – Plans to call Cubmasters and Webelos leaders to invite ourselves to Blue & Gold dinners and to make presentations to their groups over the next four weeks.  They will need Troop 10 patches on scarves.  Our scouts will attend these meetings too.  Will distribute the dates of meetings at our next meeting.

 

Terry Ellis – We will do a presentation at Leawood Rotary Club on February 27, 2003. – Breakfast at Hereford House.

 

Bryce Wells – Adult training – Wants to know what our goals and objectives are, existing leaders and new leaders, orientation and fast start, advanced supplemental training, what percentage of adult leaders do we want trained and in which areas.  New parents: to coordinate with open house where we discuss ideas, values of scouting, website, summer camp, scout development and fast start training.  Would like the committee to encourage this training.

 

Marc Elkins – Indicated we have records on all adult training.

 

Marc Elkins – Our district has 92% of top leaders in each troop trained.  Would like 100% of all adult leaders fully trained:     1) Youth protection; 2) New leader essentials; 3) Scoutmaster or job specific training; 4) Outdoor leader skills training. 

 

Herb Strain – Made a motion that our troop goal is to have 100% of our leaders trained.  Committee approved the motion.

 

Greg Spies – Moved that all adult leaders camping at Bartle have youth protection training prior to Bartle.  The committee approved this.

 

Herb Strain – April 2, 2003 – First meeting with parents of new scouts who have crossed over at PSMS.

   April 30, 2003 – Bartle parents meeting at PSMS.

   May 21, 2003 – Parent camping orientation at Sharps Barn.

   April 14, 2003 – Bartle Merit Badge sign up and PLC meeting.

 

Terry Ellis – Roundtable information – Herb made presentation on rechartering.

 

Larry Lehman – We collected $25.00 from Hen House and $2.00 from Price Chopper Rewards programs.

 

Herb Strain – Has established three secure sites as additions to our website with specific scout information.

 

Herb Strain – Needs Indian patrol dad to drive troop truck to campout.

   January 25, 2003 – District Recognition Dinner – Doubletree.  Some of our parents will receive awards.

   January 27, 2003 - Troop elections – It will be time to sign up for leadership positions.

   February 1, 2003 – New Leader Essentials – at Shawnee Mission West - during Merit Badge Forum.

   February 9, 2003 – 5:00 p.m. OA Committee Meeting – To discuss eligible scout and adult members.

   February 24, 2003 – OA Elections.

   February 6, 2003 – Roundtable – Adult training for JLT - 99th and Mission.

   March 29, 2003 – SNAWS

   June 8, 2003 – MicOSay elections

 

Glenn Alexander – Is working on OA registration.  Cutoff is end of January 2003.

 

Marc Elkins – Greg Spies will be recognized as outstanding district QM at District Recognition Meeting.

 

 

The meeting was ended at 8:15 p.m.
