“The Bloodiest Battle Fought West of the Mississippi”

A Civil War Museum was built and the battlefield was set aside,

as a tribute to the bitter battle fought in the town of

Lone Jack, Missouri on August 16, 1862.

 

At this campout we will:

·           Set up camp at the Blue & Gray Park Reserve

 

·           Have an opportunity to tour the Lone Jack Battlefield Museum and Cemetery

WHEN:          Saturday & Sunday, December 7th & 8th, 2002

 

WHERE:       Blue & Gray Park Reserve, Lone Jack, Missouri

Departure:         Meet at Prairie Star Middle School; Saturday, December 6th @ 7:30am.

We will depart PSMS promptly at 8:00am

                                    (We will return home after we break camp Sunday, around 10:30am)

 

Cost:                        ADULTS:        $15.00             (please pay Troop Treasurer)

                                    SCOUTS:       $15.00

 

COOKING AND MEALS:

·                        Saturday Lunch – Everyone bring a sack lunch.

·                        Saturday Supper:

Equipment Needed:                You will need cold weather clothing (coats, gloves, hats),  extra dry clothing to change into at night (socks, sweats, t-shirts, stocking hats, long underwear, etc.), cold weather sleeping bag, ground mat, eating mess kit, and rain gear. Patrols need to work together to make sure that patrol tents & tarps are brought to camp by assigned patrol members.   Tents have all been assigned to patrols and are not available from the Troop equipment stores.  Please check these tents BEFORE the campout to make sure that ALL parts are accounted for.  Call your Patrol Leader and Quartermaster if you have any questions.  Paper goods & cups will not be provided to Scouts or Adults.  Bring your Scout Handbooks.

 

UNIFORM OF THE DAY:   CLASS “A” Uniform required to visit the Civil War Museum.  Otherwise cold weather clothing (Scout choice)

Coordinating Patrol:          The coordinating patrol will be the Flaming Arrow Patrol. One of the parents of a Flaming Arrow Patrol Scout will need to drive the troop truck to and from the campout. The Flaming Arrow Patrol Scouts and ALL quartermasters are responsible to load the truck on Friday, October 6th at 6:00pm and unload the troop truck on Sunday morning.

 

Directions:          135th Street east to Stateline Road.  Left (north) on Stateline Road to Interstate  435.  Take I-435 south to the Grandview Triangle.  Take I-470 east / Hwy 50 east at exit 71A.  Continue on 470/50 east towards Lee’s Summit.  Go about 7 miles east to Hwy 50 east.  Exit 7A towards Sedalia on Hwy 50 east.  Go about 12 miles on Hwy 50 east. (2.6 miles past the Hwy 7 exit will be Buckner-Tarsney Road)  You should get in the left lane and be ready to exit left just past the sign: Tarsney Lakes ¬”.  Turn left (north) on Buckner-Tarsney Road.  Go 1.6 miles to the brown park sign on the right that reads “Blue & Gray Park Reserve, Organized Campground”. (You will pass 2 other brown park signs before this turn)   Turn right and proceed to campsite.
