Troop 10 Committee Meeting

March 7, 2004

Members Present

 

John Ahart, Glenn Alexander, Chip Buckner, Chris D’Adamo, William Easley, Roger Eaton, Terry Ellis, Chuck Gibson, Bill Haner, Rick Isham, Joe Johnson, Larry Lehman, Marc McCarty, Steve Ornduff, Brent Reynolds, Ken Roberson, Allan Schoof, Herb Strain, Jim Wasko & Tom Wineland

 


 

OA Recommendations meeting was held from 5pm to 6pm with seven adult OA members in attendance to discuss scouts and scouters who will be eligible for election this spring.

 

Terry Ellis called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

 

Bill Haner - Complimented Herb Strain on how well crossover ceremonies have gone

Plans to get the JASM position active to help Jim Wasko with new scouts

Complimented Ted Fuehr on how well the Cosmosphere campout went

Plans to have different teams in charge of programs at troop meetings

 

Chris D’Adamo – discussed Treasurer’s report

 

Glenn Alexander – discussed plans for OA Tapout

 

Herb Strain – discussed where scouts stand on level of activity to be eligible for MicOSay.  He discussed his concern that some scouts may not be eligible because of participation issues.

 

Joe Johnson – next Eagle Court of Honor to be on 4/25/04 at BVNWHS – 7 scouts. 

Parent meetings begin this week

 

Rick Isham – discussed Bike Campout

Steve Ornduff will lead a hike for those who will be going to HH summer

April campout will be OA Tapout and fishing

 

Herb – 75 scouts have given deposits for Bartle and 13 others will be going for sure

Anticipate 120 total

Some other troops have said they would like to join us

We will use Seneca and ½ of Pawnee

 

Terry Ellis – High Adventure

Bryce sent thanks to Stu Sharp and Steve Ornduff for help this year

We have a number of trips coming up this summer

Boundary Waters, HH, Blackbeards with Troop 282

 

Terry Ellis – Troop 59 has a Florida High Adventure opportunity we could be part of if we

can put together a crew

Philmont and Cavalcade are full

Bryce to look into a Yellowstone Horse trip and National Jamboree trip

 

Steve Ornduff – discussed registration for HH for 2005 – this is a Philmont type trip

 

Glenn Alexander – new truck status – he will meet with Fed Ex about their vehicles

 

Herb Strain – membership – we have taken part in 5 crossovers

 

Herb Strain – passed out new Quality Unit 2004 patches

 

Steve Ornduff – talked about opportunities to train leaders – see HOAC web site

 

Terry Ellis – reviewed current committee jobs and needs we have

We need someone to take over as outdoor/activities coordinator, facility coordinator, eagle advisor (to be in training), internal merit badge coordinator, training coordinator, a trainee for           truck coordinator, a new possible ASM and knot master

 

Mark McCarty – service project update

Scouting For Food is the same time as our Highway Cleanup

Leawood Rotary will be working on Special Olympics Track event and can use

                   scouts to help

also looking into Habitat for Humanity project  

 

Terry Ellis – new parent meeting on 4/7 – all parents to be included

 

Tom Wineland – discussed possible changes in how we plan and conduct the Boards of Review – it was decided that we will ask scouts to schedule their BOR’s prior to a meeting

 

Rick Isham – asked if we want to have a canoe trip T shirt – the committee decided to do this

 

Glenn Alexander – asked about scout feedback from the BOR’s – Terry will begin to share this at committee meetings – one comment that comes up has to do with wanting older scouts to help younger scouts more

 

Terry Ellis – Roundtable discussion – Leave No Trace Camping will be emphasized more – Bill Haner will begin to introduce this to the scouts

 

Chuck Gibson – discussed the Flag Retirement Ceremony at Naish – they are asking for 5000 flags

 

Ken Roberson – we got seven new scouts from Prairie Star crossover tonight

 

Herb Strain – spoke about question from Gary Bernhardt as to whether our troop continues to have interest in a Venture Crew

 

 

The meeting was ended at 8:00 p.m.
