Thanked William Easley for his great work as past Scoutmaster and all wished him a happy 42nd birthday.  Thanked Greg Spies for making the “Spies Farm” available for Troop 10 and all his work making the weekend a success.  Recognized Col. Scott Weaver for volunteering to become the current Scoutmaster.

Scoutmaster            Col M. Scott Weaver

Hats off to Chuck Gibson, Denise Holt John, McCabe and Rick Korvick for help with the Paul Bunyan campout.  24 scouts and 8 adult leaders participated in the event. "Johnny Log" may have made his way into troop lore.

Highlights:

  •         Dutch oven cooking

  •         Campmaster support

  •         Ration support

  •         Scouts wanted to do more work, said they could have cleared more brush

  •         Friday night leadership question and answer for 50 minutes

  •         "American Idol" skit appraisal featuring Ball, Spies and Key as the judges.

Administrative Points to Improvement:

Communications

Breadth of committee involvement - needed 4 -5 more adult leaders doing log/admin support on campout

Prepping Dutch oven cooking kits, utensils

Clean-up strategy

Earlier verification of  a lock in location (+ 3 week in advance)

Single site, afternoon start on a 3-day weekend would be ideal

Improve transportation plan

If school lock-in, then bus to campout

Improve budgeting and expense estimation

Packing list / Scout prep

Adequacy of Scouts' personal gear--inclement weather clothing

Improve scout outdoor readiness to function as true outdoorsmen

Outdoor program and Scouting experience in the Troop should emphasize outdoor readiness more--being prepared: wet gear, hot gear and cold gear

Monday PLC

Scott haner, Mitch Smith and Kevin Durkee - Sunday morning huddle

Kudos to Mitch Smith for doing an outstanding job as ASPL at leadership campout

Team advisor meeting will run concurrent with SPL meeting

Proposal - Requested a committee formed of graduating first year parents - will create a mechanism for additional involvement

David Contag potentially to lead the Sophomore Dad Committee

Committee should also empanel an experienced older scout

Committee task: Assess and recommend improvements to the Troop program for 2nd - 4th year scouts

Impart sense of adventure, test and expand each scouts limits mentally and physically

Community Assistance

What could the scouts do to improve their troop's image?

Should be Scout generated - build on wanting to clear more brush at the leadership campout

On the Horizon

        Start working on annual calendar

        New scout patrol assignments

Mustang Scoutmaster observations & assessment on pairing and grouping

Work on limiting older scouts alienating "first years"

Adult leaders need to encourage the right behavior toward the New Scouts

Eagle Candidate Max Magee March 23.  Volunteers selected = Greg, Dan and Mike

Treasurer Report    Kevin O’Farrell

$4,500 in checking, $7,000 in PayPalPayPal has been a success but Kevin reminded us that it comes with a 3% fee.  A/R is $5,000 not including leadership weekend.  Philmont - $9,000 owed for 2006 and $4,200 for 2007.  Cautioned that additional equipment may need to be purchased for new Mustangs further eroding cash balance.

Outdoor Activities John McCabe – Bike Campout is all set for April 1-2 at Katy Trail / Catfish.  Looking for alternatives for next season.  Paperwork is complete.  Visitors will be allowed – need class 1 and know allergy’s but it does not need to be submitted to district.  Chuck Gibson will coordinate with Greg Spies for any new  crossovers that would like to attend.  The bike campout will have a leadership activity on Friday night and all others will arrive on Saturday morning.  Greg William’s will see if his trailer is available for bike transport and McCabe will order two Jonnies.  Friday night attendees will be responsible for there own bike transport and Saturday arrivals can use the trailer.  McCabe will coordinate water at the end of the trail.

Bartle District Coordinating Meeting – March 21-22 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Independence, MO.

A Bartle duties meeting will be held at the bike campout to finalize duty roster.

Books will be ready by the next troop meeting.

Philmont 2006 – Final Payment $24,205 & total is $48,980-94 slots filled, 7 crews(2 crews outside Troop 10)  Last shakedown had 4 crews, 35 total – need more crews at the shakedown.  Still have health form & CPR todo’s – Bryce will coordinate.

Credit for Philmont Shakedown campouts for Troop overnights and Mic-O-Say = Troop policy document on the website should be followed and no new rules or exceptions were voted on.

Equipment               Chuck Gibson

Truck got stuck at leadership campout

Estimate 40 new mustangs – could need new tents

PLC needs to stress tent turn in

Suggestion was made to setup tents for inventory at 1 of the next troop meetings in the ballfield area or on one of the next campouts to determine correct inventory and condition.

Membership            Greg Spies

Registration is March 15 for re-charter

Suggestion was made for first year mentor assignments – Scout to scout or possibly by group.

Suggestion was made to get name, phone and email at troop meetings to help facilitate new adult involvement.

We have a crossover on April 2 at P-Star but in conflicts with the bike campout.
