Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Members Present

 

John Ahart, Chip Buckner, Chris D’Adamo, William Easley, Terry Ellis, Ted Fuehr, Chuck Gibson, Bill Haner, Bob Lehleitner, Larry Lehman, Steve Ornduff, Brent Reynolds, Ken Roberson, Allen Schoof, Greg Spies, Herb Strain, Jim Wasko, Bryce Wells, Rob Wheeler, & Greg Williams

 

 


 

Terry Ellis called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

 

Terry Ellis recognized

·            Herb Strain, Greg Spies and Glenn Alexander for the successful Tapout Ceremony along with the Scouts who participated

·            Greg Williams and Jim Wasko for a successful fishing tournament

·            Joe Johnson for a great Eagle Court of Honor

·            Larry Lehman for the PowerPoint presentation at the Eagle Court

·            Jim Wasko for work with 1st year scouts

 

Chris D’Adamo – reported on current finances – we still need a number of scouts to pay their balances prior to summer camp

 

Brent Reynolds – would like Asst Scoutmasters to make sure scouts have signed all items in their books including “scout spirit” prior to a Scoutmaster Conference

·            Wants to make sure that protocol is followed for Eagle Palms

 

Terry Ellis – Greg Kent asked that we have four volunteers for a Troop 10 scout who will be having his Eagle Board of Review on 5/20.

 

Terry Ellis – Eagle Court of Honor was very successful

 

Herb Strain – we had OA Induction Weekend at Naish for new ordeal candidates – Glenn Alexander will draft a letter about some issues that happened while we were there – 42  scouts were elected and 5 scouters were selected – only 12 did not attend – 9 Brotherhood members were there - the next  Induction Weekend is on 5/15

 

Greg Spies – on 6/6 at 5 PM we will have balloting for MicOSay – all leaders are invited and can vote on scouts at the meeting

 

Ted Fuehr – May campout – location is set – permission slips are not needed – we need someone to volunteer to drive the truck

 

Terry Ellis – Sept campout – Shooter Safety – 9/17- 9/19 – at Illig’s farm

 

Greg Spies – 1st year scout campout on 6/5-6/6 – Troop Guides and older scouts who will help the boys are needed – no charge to scouts for this campout

 

Bryce Wells – High Adventure to Minnesota – working on logistics – 18 are currently signed up

 

Terry Ellis – pointed out that we need to rewrite the High Adventure permission form

 

Steve Ornduff – Double H Trip is still being planned – they leave in 7 weeks

 

Terry Ellis – Bartle parents meeting went well but it was a small turnout

·            111 scouts and 24 full time leaders will be there

·            parents meeting at Sharp’s barn on 5/26

 

Bill Haner – discussed designs for Troop 10 Bartle Tee shirt – they will be voted on at PLC meeting

 

Greg Spies – 75th Tribal Feast for MicOSay is on 6/12 – a bus will drive people to Bartle

 

Herb Strain – truck – Glenn Alexander is still looking into possibilities for a new truck

 

Ken Roberson – brought up concern about the shape of equipment in patrol camp boxes

Brent Reynolds - suggested that a Troop Quartermaster check camp boxes to make sure they are being maintained.  It was decided that we would inventory and replace equipment as needed.

 

Herb Strain – noticed some things moved and missing from the troop locker – the truck door was unlocked and open with more things moved – most things were unmoved – it was decided to change the locks on the lockers – if someone needs access they can get the combination from Herb

 

Bill Haner – got a lot of compliments on the Eagle Court of Honor

·            complimented Tom Wineland on the job he is doing on the Boards of Review and

     Scoutmaster Conferences and the notes he sends afterwards

·            complimented the Asst Scoutmasters on the job they are doing with the boys

     especially around advancement

·            concerned about the scout’s lack of courtesy and respect at the last meeting – it had been going better previously

·            this week – patrol breakouts for mustangs – there will be icebreakers to help build teamwork within each patrol

 

Terry Ellis – a parent at the New Parents Meeting suggested we provide emergency contacts for campouts and this will now be on the flyer for each campout – another parent asked whether there is a way to notify them about the approximate return time from a campout – those scouts who need to notify a parent can use a cell phone on the way home

 

Terry Ellis – Mark Morrison will be in charge of Highway Cleanup

·            Clarence and Julie Krantz  will train to become Eagle Advisors

·            Doug Ball and Roger Eaton will be helping with mustangs

·            Still need new Outdoor Activity Coordinator, Pre-meeting Merit Badge Coordinator and Knot Master

 

Rob Wheeler – has format for doing instruction for different scout skills – he will share this with Steve Ornduff who is the Training Coordinator

 

Terry Ellis – we had 5 of our new Eagle Scouts go to Leawood Rotary Club breakfast and share information about their projects – we will do this again as we have new Eagles

·            On 5/10 Troop Meeting will be at Leawood Middle School

·            On 5/24 will be Court of Honor

·            On 5/26 is adult orientation to Bartle

 

Bryce Wells – suggested we consider touring Offit Museum in Omaha as a campout

 

Chuck Gibson – commented on how great the OA Campout was

 

Bill Haner – Five scouts did a flag ceremony for Special Olympics this weekend

 

Greg Spies – Eagle scouts were polled and are interested in clothing that would show they are Troop 10 Eagles

·            Friends of  Scouting – he is asking people to donate

 

Herb Strain – talked about how helpful our Troop was in construction projects at Naish – help with other projects is still needed from parents

 

Rob Wheeler – will help coordinate the above as a Troop effort to help with projects at Naish – 5/19 will be the date we will do this – it will be significant projects rather than ground maintenance

 

John Ahart and Roger Eaton – completed Outdoor Leader Skills Training

 

Will Easley – concerned that most scouts left before the troop truck at the last campout – we will take final attendance after the cleanup is completed at the end of campouts

 

Will Easley – OA experience was great – some scouts took food overnight when they were on their honor not to

 

Ted Fuehr – tan and red shirts are in and available at meetings for adults

 

Jim Wasko – has most scouts to the point they have completed requirements for Tenderfoot – they will be needing Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review at the next few meetings – we will need adults who can help with this

 

The meeting was ended at 8:15 p.m.
