Scoutmaster              Col M. Scott Weaver

Mustangs moving to their new patrols for the Canoe Campout.  3-4 new patrols may be needed to accommodate.

Team ASM’s:  3 deep in this leadership position completed except for one team.

Tent inventory scheduled for May 8 meeting.  Goal:  get accurate count and condition.  Looking for an estimated 36 missing tents.

May 8th 2006 Meeting follow-up

Color Team campfires Saturday night at the canoe campout followed by assembly at a Troop campfire for Scout Vespers will be a good way to bond the new patrols with the Color Teams. We will take attendance Sunday at the campout only after police call and after the Truck is loaded, and we will post two registered leaders at the exit to the campsite to ensure folks are observing Troop Policies. It may be worth a reminder.

There are things more painful than an equipment inventory, but they are not so many. Jim Wasko's orchestration of nearly 30 Scoutmaster Conferences this evening may be one. More on the inventory below. Next week we have the dodge-ball tournament final.

Prior to the meeting, as ASPLs and PLs arrived, took the opportunity to brief them on the concept of operations for the meeting. This was of some help during execution. We got through a quick opening ceremony, announcements, and attendance by 7:20pm. We concluded the meeting at 8:20pm. Not bad for an inventory event. However, the Patrol Leaders understanding of their role and responsibilities is still not where we want it to be as we head to Bartle next month.  The inventory exercise was good practice in having the PLs move their patrols from point to point, and they did have to take a role in completing the inventory. Quartermaster Gibson’s requirement that an adult leader check the inventory was a good way to reinforce to the Scouts who their Color Team Advisors are, too. Well done, gentlemen, and thank you for your diligence and patience in working with the patrol leaders to get the job done tonight. It also gave Mike Archer an opportunity to work with Scott Haner and discover some of the job of Troop Quartermaster.

A handful of Scouts exploited the taking of attendance at the beginning of the meeting as their cue to depart. We frustrated a few parents by stopping them from leaving with their Scout before the closing ceremony. We may be at a point of needing to take attendance twice at meetings, and only give attendance credit if a Scout is present at the close of the meeting.

Eagle Court               Joe Vogliardo / Chuck Luchen

Court of Honor scheduled for May 22.

Fall Eagle Court:  potential of 12 per Clarence Krantz.

Eagle mentoring idea proposed by Chuck Luchen.  Starting at about age 15, someone other than their parent would work with our Life Scouts.  This would be in addition to Clarence’s efforts.  The mentor would become their Eagle BoR advocate.  An idea used by some other troops.  Clarence and Chuck will continue to review the idea and come back to the committee with a recommendation.

Eagle Court Coordinator:  Tracy Thomas has agreed to be Chuck Luchen’s backup.

Advancement:           Jim Vano
