Troop 10 Committee Meeting

November 4, 2001

Members Present

 

Gary Bernhardt, Bill Brady, Mike Coffey, Chris D’Adamo, Cary Dikeman, Bill Drees, Terry Ellis, Denny Hamilton, Rick Isham, Joe Johnson, Greg Kent, Larry Lehman, Stu Sharp, Greg Spies, Larry Stocker, Herb Strain & Jim Wasko.

 


 

Mike Coffey called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

 

 

Larry Stocker:           Thanked our group that helped plan Camporee.  A lot of accolades from the district on how it went.

 

Gary Bernhardt         259 scouts                             98 scouts from troop 10

                                    197 Webelos                          79 leaders from troop 10

                                    258 adults

                                    714 Total at Camporee

              

 

Herb Strain:               Nov. campout.  Eat on the way there - four hours of driving to get there; camping at Harvey Young’s State River Park.  We have to be at Cosmosphere at 7:45am with merit badge cards in hand.  The troop will serve a cold breakfast – no fires are allowed.  We are not taking the truck.  Greg will be taking coolers, lanterns, etc.  If scouts do not register by November 5th they will not be able to go.  Planetarium, rocket building, lunch.  We are coming home Saturday evening for the Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, November 11th.

 

Greg Spies:               Bartle will be 4th session 7/10 – 17/9.  Seneca campsite.  Saturday will be visitors day.  The details are on the website.  Cost to scouts and dads have not been determined yet.  A bus will be transportation to camp.

 

Mike Coffey:              Philmont phone call was a bust.  Ten leaders were there to call.  We were not able to get through.  We do not have a reservation for 2003 but are on a waiting list.

 

Cary Dikeman:           We have a reservation at Quetico June 1st through June 12th beginning first weekend after school is out.  Because of portaging, size will be a factor.  (9 days on the water)

 

Gary Bernhardt:        March, 2003 – a trip to Honduras is planned.

 

Stu Sharp:                  Looking at Packard style trip from July 27th to August 4th.  Would include Sand Dunes, rafting, climbing, Air Force Academy visit and much more.

                        Felt we need to discuss age issues on the various trips.

                        Considering offering scuba and horse packing trips in 2003.

 

Bill Drees:                  On Packard style trip – Would like scouts to have completed 7th grade or be age thirteen.

 

Stu Sharp:                  Would like the same to apply to Quetico.

 

Joe Johnson:            Eagle Court of Honor – November 11th at 2:00 p.m.

 

Greg Kent:                 Reported on prospective Eagles.  Next Court of Honor will be April 28th.

 

Herb Strain:               Roundtable was Basic Leader Training.  Will only send Troopmaster files on the website.  He will not send reminders – he updates it every Tuesday.  Leaders must get the address from Herb to be able to download the new data.  There is also a new patch.

 

Greg Spies:               Needs to spend some money for equipment (tables for patrols.)

 

Mike Coffey:              Greenery sales are being tallied order will be sent in.  The greenery will be delivered to Stu’s barn to then be picked up by scouts to be delivered.

 

Bill Brady:                  Treasurer report: No current concerns.

 

Mike Coffey:              Discussed group who volunteered last month get together to discuss new troop shirt.  Interest was there for a short sleeve, red polo shirt and a long sleeve button down.

 

Larry Lehman:           Jr. Leadership Training – December 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..  Leaders will be involved too.

 

Terry Ellis:                 Tee shirt sales at Camporee: Sold 185 – need to sell 34 more to break even.

 

Stu Sharp:      Venture crew update.

Leawood Rotary Club agreed to sponsor our troop.  This will be official in March, 2002.

                        Would like parents who go on High Adventure trips to be registered and trained.

 

Greg Spies:               Suggested we invite Webelos to a campout who could not come to Camporee.

 

Gary Bernhardt:        Will send a letter to Webelos group inviting them to troop function when a date is determined.

 

Herb Strain:               OA Banquet January 25th

 

Gary Bernhardt:        Will be the OA advisor.

 

 

The meeting was ended at 7:45 p.m.
