Troop 10 Committee Meeting

Jeff Muchow called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

Introductions and announcement of new adult leader positions to include: Tom Baker-Outdoor Activites, Barb Cusick--Fundraising, Deb Herrman--Assistantt. Attendance Coordinator, Deb Dellinger--Comm. Service., Howard Gerson--Photo Archivist, and Tom Snodell, Ast. BOR .  Jeff reqested individual attention to email etiquette and resolution of problems between individuals instead of “blanket” email activity.  This will reduce the email overload experienced by everyone .

 

Scoutmaster Update    Scott Weaver            

Several boy scouts attended Round Table to turn in Eagle requirements.  Discussed upcoming meeting schedule..  ASM will appoint a deputy ASPL for each color team and a Scribe. 

Current troop policy requires scouts to be Star rank or above to be a Patrol Leader.  Scout Master motioned to allow a troop policy change to allow 1st class scouts that are at least a second year scout or above to become a patrol leader in training and receive full leadership credit. Motion voted on and passed.  

Leadership training will be modified to small breakout groups with target info about the specific leadership position.

Twelve Eagle candidates scheduled for fall court.  The Spring Court is scheduled for April 26. Get announcements to Greg Reynolds.  Eagle Court will not be rescheduled to Saturday as stated in prior email.

 

Treasurer Report         Kevin O’farrell

Working on a new budget to include Bartle budget.  Consolidation of bank accounts on schedule.

 

Outdoor Activities        John McCabe and Paul Bertrand

Shooter Safety campout will be Sept 29 - Oct 1 We will follow BSA regulations, 22 caliber with different positions and targets and shotgun practice.  Paul is looking for a volunteer to run the archery range.  We need at least 3 adults at each station.  A police officer from Leawood will present a safety briefing at the September 25th meeting.  Camporee is in Lewisberg 13-15th of Oct.

 

Grub Master                  Rick Korvick, Denise Holt

They have several volunteers on the grubmaster committee. 

 

Equipment Coordinator    Chuck Gibson

Troop Locker Inventory & Truck Loading was completed on Saturday.  Chuck will  separate camp box and tent inventory.  63 out of 90 tents found and we are still missing seven camp boxes.  Chuck issued 3 tents per patrol, 3 boys to a tent.  Seven patrols did not pick up equipment.  Discussed Dutch ovens for all patrols and need for more wash stations   Motion made and passed to expand the number of wash stations and purchase of additional Dutch ovens.

New Truck may be ready in two weeks according to information received from Michael Kahn.

 

Membership                  Greg Spies

Goal of 20% increase in membership.  Many incentives will be offered to scouts that recruit new scouts.  We will take the telescope to the camporee.  Trailhead District has a  Medieval theme for camporee this year.

 

Honor Camping O/A     David Contag 

Congratulated Bob Lehleitner for induction into Order of Arrow Ordeal.  Boys will have to supply transportation to fall fellowship.  Excellent participation from Troop 10 to include approximately 29 Scouts and adults.

 

Mic-O-Say                      Greg Spies/Blake Williams

All boys start with a clean slate on eligibility for next rank in Mic-O-Say.

 

New Business:

Greenery buyout will stay at $40.

 

Greg Spies is coordinating Friends of Scouting.

 

Bob Key made a motion to spend $500 on website enhancements.  Motion approved.

 

Motion was made to get more than 1 oven per patrol.  Motion failed.

 

Philmont signup deadline is Monday, September 18th.  Jeff asked for a volunteer to lead the Philmont coordination and planning.  Only have 14 signed up so far.

 

Jeff Muchow adjourned the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
