Meeting Chair
Jeff talked about several adult leadership position that are still open. The two most critical right now are the Eagle
Advisor, with Clarence Krantz ready to step down, but
needing someone to train for the position, and Mic-O-Say
advisor now that both
Scoutmaster Update
We have a new SPL, Thomas Ahart, who was in attendance at the committee meeting. Greg’s comment was that Thomas will be taking
a much more active role in running the troop meetings and campouts, with the
assistance of the ASPLs, including such issues as
determining color team campsite locations ahead of time so early arrivers know
where to set up tents, planning troop meetings, and providing feedback to the
adult leaders

records are also set up on TroopMaster for Mustangs
in the correct patrols. For the locker
cleanout we were very weak in attendance by QMs. There was some confusion about which QMs should have attended since this was before the new QMs really took their position, but many had already
transitioned the equipment. Need to
consider that next year with locker cleanout to better fit the leadership
transition.

Treasurer
Report Kevin O’farrell\
Kevin has put together a recap of the year’s income and spending, along with percentages on where income was created and where money was spent. The numbers for the year were a bit skewed due to the purchase of the new troop truck, but the year analysis is available for anyone interested in looking. There is a surplus in the troop account, and a question was asked about whether we should forego charging for camping this year. Also questions on setting up a scholarship account for Bartle or Philmont. As for the costs for Philmont, there may be a small refund for those participants.
Outdoor Activities Tom Baker
flyers are on the website for Sep. and Oct. Registration for Camporee is the 20th, just for raw numbers. Campouts are only 2 weeks apart, which may be an issue for some. The bicycle campout will be a bit different in that we’ll need to load bikes on Friday night. Just for awareness, there are several camping merit badge requirements that can be earned on this campout, including a conservation project later Saturday afternoon.
Question – what
is the policy on guests on campouts? BSA
says you can visit for 1 overnight campout before you join the troop. Must either have a parent present
or a class 1 form. For the
bicycle campout they still need trail volunteers
Grub Master Tammy Key and John McCabe
Picnic was excellent thanks to
David Corley’s effort. The upcoming
Camporee menu for the troop to prepare will be something from

Membership
Webelos Night will be held on November
27. We need volunteers and another slide
show for the event. We need to contact
Packs that are not coming to Camporee and encourage them to attend. Greg wants to get more Webelos to crossover
early because of the re-charter changes.
Rules are strict when they can come enter the troop however.
Friends of scouting status - Greg requested that we increase
donations because we are low. The Troop
10 target is $13,000 and we are currently at $2,900.
Honor
Camping O/A Dave Contag
- O/A
Recruiting for
C-team. They will do a
demonstration crossover at the Dec. Roundtable.
Mic-O-Say, lots of advancements this year at Bartle. There will
be a Mic-O-Say rep at roundtable in Dec. also.
Greg Spies/Blake Williams - Mic-O-Say
Need to check attendance to be sure they meet Mic-O-Say
Adult
Training
lots of
training available on websites. For job
specific training use several sites as options,
including Northern Tier as well as Trailhead.
November Roundtable will have several required training opportunities,
including Fast Start, Youth Protection.
If you haven’t done YP in a while it might be a good opportunity to
update it. Scott Bower is working on
updating and putting together a matrix on leader training profiles and what
each person has done. Nov. 3 is
scouting university with courses in multiple areas..
Community
Service Deb Dellinger
Lions Club has a service project
as a Pancake Breakfast on Oct. 19-20th. Boys can sell tickets for service hours. Also the Lions do elderly lawn work, including trimming, mowing,
cleanup that scouts could do for service hours
also. We will look for bell-ringers for
Salvation Army this year also.
District
Round Table Scott Bowers
Scott Bowers is now the new district roundtable chair. October Roundtable will be Dutch oven cooking. Also planning right now for new year’s Roundtables so anyone with ideas needs to let Scott know. One example would be for best practice sharing on campouts. Outstanding leadership award nominations are out.
Leadership
For
Camporee, working on membership and OA ceremony. Need assistance on organization someone to
greet them. Plan to have a scout
assigned to each Cub Pack, along with an adult, or possibly 2 for each
pack. Denise will coordinate
volunteers. New recruiting effort will
be announce on bringing a friend to a scout meeting. If the friend joins scouts, there will be
free tickets to a Wizards game.
New
Business:
Rotary sponsorship – Leawood Rotary is declining to continue their sponsorship
of Troop 10. Lions are very
interested. Blake Williams and
Thomas Ahart
– SPL moment – the Coleman stoves are causing a lot of concern from the scouts
and need to be addressed. Would be willing to work with the adult group and his ASPLs to come up with recommendations. The concern with the Pratt and Whitney is
that they are way too dangerous to cook on.
Too many failure/leakage opportunities. There was a motion to allow
Equipment – we still have 19 tent numbers missing from last year.
The district is up 15% in cub scouts, much thanks to the Troop 10 speakers at the schools and cub packs.
Jeff
Muchow adjourned the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
