Troop 10 Mustang Scouts
The annual Troop 10 Mustang Campout is coming up on Saturday, May 31 – Sunday, June 1. This campout is specifically held to help you work on your Scout Skills.

Please note the following details and come prepared:
When: Saturday, May 31 – Sunday, June 1, 2014
Where: Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131
We will be camping in the undeveloped part of the cemetery in the Northeast Corner of the Cemetery overlooking the second pond. You will need to drive through the cemetery to get to the designated area. Please note that you may want to bring earplugs. There are train tracks nearby and the trains will blow their whistles.
Release Form: Must be signed by parent to attend the campout.
Saturday, June 1
• 8:00 am Arrive at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Set up Camp.

*Additional Service Hours – Trailhead Day Camp Setup at Camp Timberlake. I will have four cemetery tents to set up – With plenty of help it should take us no more than 2 hours including travel time. If you want to stay longer and help in other areas at Timberlake I know they would appreciate the help.

General Trip Outline
Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is part of Superior National Forest. BWCA is in the northern extreme of Minnesota and it borders Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. BWCA is renown for its canoeing and fishing. It is over one million acres of pristine wilderness which includes over one thousand lakes, over one thousand miles of canoe routes and over two thousand campsites.
We will gather near Ely, Minnesota for a half-day of orientation, detailed trip planning, instruction on how to use the outfitter’s equipment and bunking in one of their bunkhouses. Then we head out early on the next morning for seven days on the water in BWCA.
We are targeting a path which leads from Nina Moose River to Mudro Lake. This itinerary has the benefit of several waterfalls, Indian pictographs, cliff faces, fantastic fishing and general scenic beauty. Not returning to the start point has the benefit of seeing new sights every day. There are enough days and distance to let the crews complete the trip without pushing too hard while earning the 50-miler award.
The National Forest Service requires all entrants to BWCA to break into crews of nine or fewer people. Permits are issued per crew with strict limits on how many crews may enter BWCA at each entry point per day. It is recommended that we have one crew travel from Nina Moose River to Mudro Lake while another crew head from Mudro Lake to Nina Moose River, allowing for a meeting half-way. Detailed plans of the trip on waterproof maps – which we will carry with us – will be reviewed during orientation.
We have chosen North Country Canoe Outfitters as our outfitter for this trip rather than the Boy Scout Northern Tier outfitter. There are many advantages of using a private outfitter – they provide better equipment, all equipment, including canoes, tents, water-tight bags for gear, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, stoves, pots, pans, rain flies and food. They require less paperwork and have fewer hoops for us to jump through. They are lower cost. They are more flexible in a variety of ways.
Age and Rank Requirements
All scouts going on this High Adventure trip need to be at least 13 years of age and at least Star rank at the time of the trip.
Fees and Deposit
A non-refundable $100 deposit is due by March 10, 2014. The balance will be due upon arrival at BWCA.
