Troop 10 will be boarding a Blackbeard ship for an adventure on the high seas next summer, July 20-26.  We will be departing from Nassau, Bahamas for a week of sailing, diving, snorkeling, and fishing.  Scouts must be 13 years old at the time of the trip or 12 years old and have completed 7th grade.


The cost is approx $1219 if already scuba certified and $1932 if scuba certification is needed.  Air fare is approx. $500 in addition to this.


The trek will start on July 11th and end on July 23rd. Based on the current Amtrak schedule, you would take the 10:45pm train to Raton, NM the evening of July 10th (Thursday) and arrive around 11am the morning of July 12th.

The return trip has you leaving Raton on July 23rd at 4:50pm and getting back to Kansas City around 7:30am July 24th (Thursday).

This class is FULL.


  1. Swim Suit and Towel – Scouts will be in and out of the water every class, a large towel can help scouts keep warm.
  2. Handbook – Current Lifesaving Merit Badge Handbook
  3. Check – $15.00 fee for class. Make check payable to “TROOP 10”

Attendance at all classes of a session is required to complete that merit badge.

You MUST have completed swimming merit badge in order to take this class.

Troop 10 Locker Cleanout @ Troop 10 Storage Locker
Jun 8 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

The  Troop 10 Locker Cleanout and loading the Troop Truck for Bartle will start at 8AM Saturday morning June 8, 2013 and go until the all work is completed (about 4 hours). All scouts are required to attend. Bring gloves and a water bottle. This will happen so bring rain gear if needed.

Scouts and Quartermasters, All tents need to be turned in at the locker this Saturday Clean and dry.

Patrol Quartermasters should clean and restock the camp boxes and store at home until next fall when you transfer to the new patrol Quartermaster.

For all scouts and parents interested in any high adventure backpacking trip over the next several years…

Marta Henshaw from Backwoods will be doing a “Gear Talk” on February 3 at 6 PM at Prairie Star Middle School prior to the Troop meeting. This will be your opportunity to hear about the newest and best gear to take with you in your pack. She will also be giving tips on how to pack your backpack. You will have an opportunity to ask her any gear related questions.

Registration for H. S. Truman Merit Badge Program Begins

The Spring 2014 Harry S Truman Library Merit Badge Program is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Registration will be at the following website on February 10, 2014 at 9am.

Scouts have the opportunity to earn the Citizen in the Nation OR American Heritage merit badge. Sign up online individually (this is not a Troop event). Additional details (including prerequisites) can be found at the website above.

FYI, in the past this has filled up within minutes (so be at your computer ready to register promptly at 9 am if you wish to attend)! Normally, this is offered in the Spring as well as the Fall. Registration for the other session will be at a later date.
