A special man by the name of Carlson Farha served as the Troop’s Scoutmaster from 1986 to 1987.  He was a Scout as a youth, an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and served as Bartle Camp Scoutmaster.  His two sons are both Eagle Scouts from Troop 10; Pat in 1985 and Darron in 1988.  Above all, Carlson lived by the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life.

In December of 2000, Carlson lost his battle with cancer.  It was a great loss for his family, friends, the State Line Optimist Club and to Troop 10.

In 2001, as a gesture of our admiration for Carlson, the Optimist Club and Troop 10 commissioned the Carlson Farha Memorial Scout Spirit Award.  This award is an annual award presented to one Troop 10 Scout that best exemplifies the spirit displayed by Carlson.

The inscription on the plaque reads:

In recognition of the scout spirit displayed throughout the year, that was best exemplified by our past Scoutmaster, Carlson Farha:
  • Cheerful service to Troop and community
  • Friendship and warmth shown to all
  • Facing adversity with a laugh and a smile
  • Always doing one’s best
