Once a Troop 10 Scout obtains the Rank of Life Scout, he begins the "Trail to Eagle".
This Web Page is designed to assist you in the advancement process.
All forms for the rank of Eagle, as required by the Heart of America Council,
and the Trailhead District can be found on this page.
You are not expected to, nor is it advised to attempt to complete the Life to Eagle journey alone.
Troop 10 has several leaders that can assist you in this process.
As you have questions, do not hesitate to visit with a leader.

Troop 10 - Life to Eagle Timeline & Checklist
(Note: all links on this page will take you directly to the mentioned documents)
- Become a Life Scout.
- Download a copy of the Trailhead District Life to Eagle Advancement Guide
Read and print this guide first. This is an excellent guide which explains all the necessary steps for earning the Eagle rank.
You will find the following requirements referenced in this guide.
The point and page number will be referenced.
- Obtain a white, one inch, notebook with a clear sleeve on the front.
Make sure your binder has inside pockets.
For your binder cover, create a page that has your name, Troop 10, and “Eagle Project” on the page.
You should also include 3-5 pictures. These could be pictures of Eagles, the Troop 10 rock at Bartle,
the Troop 10 sunflower “logo”, etc.
- Point 1 / Page 6:  Maintain an active position of responsibility (leadership) for six months.
- Point 2 / Page 6:  Maintain active participation in all troop activities.
- Point 3 / Page 6:  Work towards completing 21 merit badges including 12 Eagle Required Merit Badges.
- Point 4 / Page 6:  Plan and discuss an Eagle Scout Project with the Eagle Scout Advisor. Once the Eagle Advisor has given you approval to start writing your project, use the Eagle Scout Workbook.   Download it and save to your hard drive in Microsoft Word format.
- Point 5 / Page 7:  Meet with the organization benefiting from your project. A list of appropriate organizations can be found at http://bsatroop10.org/service.htm.  A project can benefit a school, place of worship, or non-profit service organization. For additional ideas, visit with a Troop 10 Eagle Scout about the project they completed. Be creative. If you have a particular project that has not previously been completed, feel free to discuss it with the Eagle Advisor.
- Point 6 / Page 8:  Once the Eagle Advisor has given you approval to start writing your project, use only the workbook described in Point #4 above.
- Point 7 / Page 8:  Obtain project signatures. When you have successfully completed the first half of your writeup, the Eagle Advisor will sign the writeup, and advise you of other necessary signatures.
- Point 8 / Page 8:  Presentation of your preliminary writeup at District Roundtable, which is held the first Thursday of every month, except July. Check the Troop 10 calendar for location and start times. On the night you will be presenting your project for preliminary approval.
- NOTE: There are several occasions during your pursuit of Eagle where you will attend reviews, and will need to be in full Class "A" uniform, including merit badge sash, and nice dress shoes. Leave your OA sash at home. You should wear your Mic-O-Say and Order of the Arrow Coups. To make a good impression, make sure your uniform is ironed and looks nice. An incomplete Class "A" uniform may be cause for postponement of meetings necessary to obtain the rank of Eagle.
- Point 9 / Page 9:  Completing the project. Once you have received preliminary approval at District Roundtable, you may begin and complete your project.
- Point 10 / Page 9:  Three letters of reference. The link Heart of America Council Eagle Scout Guide & Reference Letters provides instructions for the three letters of reference. You should secure your letters of reference once you start completing the second half of your writeup once you have finished your project (this is also a good time to start working on your Eagle Application as described in Point #14 below). Have those people writing letters on your behalf send their completed forms to the Troop 10 Eagle Advisor at the address listed above. Note: you will need to have all your letters sent to The Troop 10 Eagle Advisor prior to your final visit to District Roundtable. (Our Scoutmaster may elect to deliver his letter the night of your Board of Review.
- Point 11 / Page 9:  Complete the Project workbook. When you have completed your project, it is time to finish your writeups. The Eagle Advisor can provide you with examples of other writeups so you can see the type of detail necessary in your document. Once you have completed your project, the Eagle Advisor will instruct you on the steps necessary to complete the second half of your workbook.
- Point 12 / Page 9:  Review Project with Eagle Advisor. When you and the advisor are satisfied with your writeup, he will sign it. You will also need to obtain a signature from the organization benefiting from the project. The Eagle Advisor will also sign your Scout Handbook indicating you have successfully completed an Eagle Project.
- You should also complete the GOOD TURN FOR AMERICA FORM (MS Word) or GOOD TURN FOR AMERICA FORM (Adobe PDF) and email to the Troop 10 Eagle Advisor at eagle@bsatroop10.org
- Point 13 / Page 9:  Write a Statement of Life’s Ambitions. This is a document the Eagle candidate will write, and is a requirement described in the Eagle Application. Use this document to describe what you have accomplished in life, and what your plans are for the future. Remember to use references of your scouting career in this document. Print out your completed statement, and place in the inside pocket of your notebook.
- Point 14 / Page 9:  Eagle Rank Application and Other Forms. Feel free to begin completing this application at any time. You will need to turn in your Eagle Application with all the necessary signatures during your final visit to District Roundtable. To assist you in filling out this form, the Advancement Chairman can create an Eagle Application Assistance Form for your use. There are a variety of old forms available which you can find surfing the net. The most current form, should indicate “512-728 – 2009 Printing” in the bottom left hand corner of page 2. You will also note a bar code in the lower right hand corner. Do not use older versions of the Eagle Application, as they will not be accepted.
- Once the Eagle Advisor, has signed off on your final project writeup, the Advancement Chairman will need to check and approve your Eagle Rank Application and sign your Scout Handbook to confirm you have successfully completed your leadership position, merit badges, and the time passed since achieving your Life rank. Prior to presenting your Eagle Rank Application to the Advancement Chairman, it will be necessary for you to print off a copy of your Individual Progress Report and your Individual History Report from the Troop 10 website. These reports confirm the information you have written on your Eagle Application, and will need to be placed in the inside pocket of your Eagle notebook for future reference at District Roundtable. Once the requirements are confirmed, the Advancement Chairman will give you a white card indicating your attendance which must be given to the Scoutmaster to schedule a Scoutmaster’s conference.
- This needs to be presented to the Scoutmaster for scheduling your Scoutmaster conference. When presented with your Spirit Card, our Scoutmaster will schedule and conduct your Scoutmaster Conference. Once you have successfully completed your conference with the Scoutmaster, you will be eligible to present your finished project during your final visit to District Roundtable.
- Point 15 / Page 10:  Scoutmaster Conference. Present your Spirit Card to the Scoutmaster to schedule a Scoutmaster’s Conference. Once you have successfully completed your conference with the Scoutmaster, you will be eligible to present your finished project during your final visit to District Roundtable. Check the Troop 10 calendar for scheduling and the location of the next District Roundtable.

- Once you have successfully completed your final visit to District Roundtable, you will be given the schedule for your visit to Eagle Board of Review.
- Point 17 / Pages 10 & 11:  Eagle Board of Review. The Troop 10 Eagle Advisor will confirm the time of your review.
