Once a Troop 10 Scout obtains the Rank of Life Scout, he begins the "Trail to Eagle".
This Web Page is designed to assist you in the advancement process.
All forms for the rank of Eagle, as required by the Boy Scouts of America Guide to Advancement 2011,
the Heart of America Council, the Trailhead District
and Troop 10 Advancement Policies can be found on this page.

You are not expected to, nor is it advised to attempt to complete the Life to Eagle Scout journey alone.
Troop 10 has several leaders that can assist you in this process.
As you have questions, do not hesitate to visit with a leader.

Troop 10 - Life to Eagle Scout Timeline & Checklist

     EAGLE SCOUT RANK REQUIREMENTS:
     · Eagle Scout Candidates must maintain active participation (>55%) in camping, meetings, and Courts of Honor in the 6 months prior to their Eagle Scout Board of Review.
     Requirements below may be completed in any order:
     · Must have six months of (leadership) responsibility as a Life Scout.
     · Must have earned 21 merit badges including 12 Eagle Scout Required Merit Badges.
     · Must plan and carry out an approved Eagle Scout Project following discussion with the Eagle Scout Advisor and obtaining District approval.

    EAGLE SCOUT LEADERSHIP SERVICE PROJECT - Complete in order

  1. Discuss your ideas for an Eagle Scout Project with the Eagle Scout Advisor.      
    Please bring the Troop 10 Life-to-Eagle Checklist and a copy of Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook with you. Page 4 of the workbook provides guidance on appropriate projects.

  2. Meet with the Representative of the Benefiting Organization.

  3. Fill out Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook
    1. Initially, complete pages 1, 1.6 and 2.1 to 2.4 and bring these to the Eagle Advisor for discussion. Filling out pages 3.1 to 3.6 all the way to "Contingency Plans Section" will be strongly encouraged after initial discussion and prior to District Roundtable, to help ensure a successful project. (Note: Insert workbook, appendices into a one inch white binder with inside pockets and a clear sleeve on the front. The binder cover should have your name, Troop 10, and “Eagle Scout Project”. See examples.
    2. Present workbook to Eagle Advisor at beginning of any regular Scout Meeting.
      1. Advisor will look over workbook and provide feedback and guidance at completion of meeting.
      2. Upon approval workbook will be returned with Eagle Scout Advisor and Unit Leader signatures. (Note: Roundtables are held 1st Thursday of every month (except July), typically it takes 2-3 revisions to get approval, so plan accordingly.)
      3. Obtain the Beneficiary’s approval signature and then you are allowed to proceed to District Roundtable.  

  4. Present your Eagle Project Workbook at the District Roundtable held on the first Thursday of every month, except July.  Location and start times are available on the Troop 10 calendar.

    NOTE:   When you attend reviews you will need to be in full Class "A" uniform, including neckerchief and clasp, merit badge sash, scout belt, socks, and nice dress shoes.   Mic-O-Say and Order of the Arrow Coups may be worn, do not wear OA sash.

  5. Your District reviewer will fill out the following checklist: Trailhead District Initial Eagle Scout Proposal Checklist .   It is necessary to receive approval at District Roundtable prior to starting your project.

  6. Send email to Eagle Advisor indicating who has agreed to help you and the project start date.

  7. Complete your project.   Remember to have pictures taken of you leading scouts on the project.

  8. Complete Project Workbook.
    1. Complete pages 4.1.to 4.4
    2. Obtain Project Beneficiary's Signature on Page 4.4
    3. Submit completed workbook and your Scout Handbook to Eagle Advisor for review at any Regular Scout Meeting, upon approval he will sign page 4.4 and your Scout Handbook.


Final Steps to Complete the Eagle Scout Rank
(complete in order unless otherwise noted and use material at links)
    1. Insure that you have completed the required items (see blue box above) and will meet the active participation requirements.

    2. Print off a copy of your Individual Progress Report and your Individual History Report from the Troop 10 website.   Place a copy in your Eagle Scout Project Notebook.

    3. Fill out an Eagle Scout Rank Application   Before you do this, request an "Eagle Scout Application Assistance Report" from the Advancement Chair several months prior to your desired second District Roundtable visit.

    4. Obtain FOUR letters of reference.   Heart of America Council Eagle Scout Reference Letter Forms.
      • Unit Leader (Scoutmaster)
      • School Principal or other Educator (teacher)
      • Religious Leader (You may enter your parents' name if you have no organized religious association)
      • Parents

      Provide a stamped envelope addressed to the Eagle Scout Advisor to people writing letters on your behalf.

      Letters need to be received by the Eagle Scout Advisor prior to your final visit to the District Roundtable.   It is recommended that the forms be delivered to your references after your first District Roundtable visit.   (Note: the Troop 10 Scoutmaster may elect to deliver his letter the night of your Board of Review).

    5. Present your Scout Handbook and Eagle Scout Rank Application with requirements 1-5 completed, to the Advancement Chair.   If approved, the Advancement Chair will issue you a "Scout Spirit Card".

    6. Contact the Scoutmaster to schedule a conference (must have Scout Spirit Card and must be at least two weeks prior to District Roundtable you plan to attend – i.e., first Thursday of the month).

    7. Write Statement of Life’s Ambitions (see Requirement 6 – on the Eagle Scout Application this can be done at any time).   Describe what you have accomplished in life and what your plans are for the future.   Remember to reference your scouting career in this document.   Print out your completed statement, and place it in the inside pocket of your notebook prior to your Scoutmaster Conference.

    8. Scoutmaster Conference - At the agreed date & time, present yourself in Full Class “A” Scout Uniform, with your Scout Handbook, approved Eagle Scout Rank Application form, completed Eagle Scout Project Notebook, Statement of Life’s Ambition, and your Spirit Card.

    9. Upon a successful Scoutmaster Conference, the Scoutmaster will sign your Scout Handbook and Eagle Scout Rank Application form.

    10. Obtain the Troop Committee Chair’s signature on your Eagle Scout Rank Application form.

    11. Send email to the Eagle Scout Advisor that items 1-10 above are completed and that you intend to attend the District Roundtable.

    12. Present your completed Eagle Scout Rank Application and Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to the District Roundtable – (First Thursday of month, see time and location on Troop 10 calendar). Full Class “A” uniform required.

    13. At the District Roundtable, the reviewer will fill out the Trailhead District Eagle Scout BOR Preparedness Checklist.   Upon approval, you will be scheduled for an Eagle Scout Board of Review – which typically occurs on the third Thursday of month.

    14. Eagle Scout Board of Review.   The Troop 10 Eagle Scout Advisor will confirm the time and location of your Board of Review.   Your Full Class "A" uniform is required   A Board of Review consists of a lead reviewer from the Trailhead District, and 3-4 adults from Troop 10.   Eagle Scout candidates should be prepared to discuss all information covered during previous visits to District Roundtable, and earlier Scoutmaster conferences.
