(Eagle required merit badge)
Starting on January 1, 2014, the Cooking merit badge is required to achieve the rank of Eagle. Any scout who did not eagle by the end of 2013 is required to complete the Cooking merit badge to achieve the eagle rank ‐ there will be no grandfathering.
The current/old 2007 Cooking merit badge will satisfy the eagle requirement for the Cooking merit badge. Further, if the Cooking merit badge is started in 2014, it can be completed at any time before aging out, using the 2007 requirements.
The Cooking merit badge will be offered at Prairie Star Middle School on Monday, August 18 18th @ 6:00 PM. This will be followed up with a second class currently scheduled for December 1. The details of the second class are being finalized. You must attend BOTH classes to complete this badge.
In addition to these classes, completion of the Cooking merit badge will require planning and preparing four regular meals on campouts, two backpack meals on campouts and three meals at home. All outdoor campouts are good opportunities to address the Cooking merit badge requirements.
Because many scouts are working the Cooking merit badge and some are close to aging out and/or reaching eagle rank, we should give priority to those who are closest to aging out, then those who are closest to reaching eagle rank.
If you are interested in taking this badge, please get the merit badge booklet, read through it and come to class on the 18th. Also, please print out the first 18 pages of the Cooking merit badge worksheet (double‐sided to save paper) and bring it with you.
Please contact us if you have any questions about the Cooking merit badge.
